inhale the ease, exhale the busy
This summer has been different than all the rest. Not only are we slowly exiting the Pandemic or “The Great Pause” as I like to call it.
But, my little tripod (family) has also moved to an entirely new state. We've decided to leave the home that I have lived in most of my life in Maryland (30 plus years) and travel to make our new home near Charlottesville, Virginia.
Oh, and did I mention that I left my full-time teaching job that I have had for twelve beautiful years spent all at the same public school. YUPPPP, lots of change happening here people.
Some may call this the most SHIFT-worthy summer to date for me.
With all of this shifting and new change brings both equal amounts of excitement and discomfort.
I guess you can’t have ying without the yang, right?
All of this to say that this summer could have the potential for being filled with a shit ton of overwhelm, but the good news is that I have found a better way to fill this season!
I have a method or practice that has been bringing my mind, my soul and my heart so much joy and ease these days.
This summer I have decided to UNRUSH! So I guess you can say that I'm Unrushing Summer :)
I’m throwing away the long bucket list, the social media worthy projects, and most importantly the expectations and norms of everyone else around me.
This summer I’m flowing with the days and giving myself permission to LISTEN to what I need and what I want each day.
As always intending to keep it real on here, a summer with a three-year old has been a huge motivating factor for me deciding to unrush my days, because it’s not only my wants and needs I have to juggle, but also the needs and wants of a tiny human I like to call Lucille, my daughter.
Okay, let's get to the good stuff I wanted to share... 5 WAYS to UNRUSH SUMMER (that I have discovered & are working so far, woo hoo! :)) so it may help bring a little added joy and ease to anyone else who may feel busy and overwhelmed as hell this season.
Also, a friendly reminder that YOU ARE KILLIN' IT!
5 ways to unrush summer
1. Journaling (in the morning and in the evening)
Every morning I write down:
> Three things I'm GRATEFUL for
> MY TOP 3; three things I would like to accomplish that day
Each night I write down:
> Three things that were FUN for me that day
> Three things that I did that day to GIVE (either to others or myself)
> One thing I want to do BETTER next time
2. Replacing shopping with nature adventures
Anytime I have the urge to go shopping or feel the need to impulsively buy something,
instead I find a park, a playground or a new place to take an adventure to.
This not only saves me money, but also saves me from all the unwanted clutter
that could have taken up space in my home and in my headspace.
3. Planning dinner meals with intention
Planning designated dinner themes and choosing simple dinner meals each week that include space for
sponateneity, take-out and space to use up leftovers makes my days feel so much calmer & less chaotic.

4. Flow more, plan less (especially with my daughter)
Each day we wake up and have a choice.
Realizing we can flow with our crazy and ever-evolving emotions
instead of sticking to a rigid schedule has brought so much joy to both me and my daughter.
The plan each day is to have fun, that's it.
5. Asking for alone time
Not feeling guilty when asking for time to be with myself.
Again, DON'T FEEL GUILTY asking for a set of time to fill your needs!
I ask my husband almost every day for time to be alone to either write, walk, listen to a podcast
take a bike ride, a bath or maybe just to watch a mindless TV show.
This small amount of time to be with myself is SO F*CKING MAGICAL!
Cheers to unrushing the chaos of whatever season you're in!
